Storytelling: "Peace at Last"

Peace at Last was written by Jill Murphy and it is a funny story in which Mr Bear can´t fall asleep due to the noises around him.

The reasons why I decided to choose this book were:

- First of all, in my opinion I think it is an excellent and amusing book, so for that reason I am sure that children will like too.

- Also because there is a lot of repetitive text and it´s very useful for children because they can predict what is going to happen and they will understand better.

- On the one hand, the ilustrations are big and well-done and they explain perfectly the story without reading it.

- With this book, teachers can work for instance the vocabulary of the members of the family (mum, dad, baby,...) and also the sounds that some objects and animals make in our real life such as: people snoring among others.

- To sum up, this book is very suitable for children between 3 and 6 years old.

Didactic unit: The very hungry caterpillar

Activities before reading:

- Related to food: First of all, we will give them a box that contains different types of food (healthy and unhealthy food), so they have to choose which one of them are healthy and unheathy food.

- Related to de ICT: Then we are going to create a puzzle using the ICT, because from our point of view it´s a very motivation activity and children in general like the technology.

- Related to the Life-cycle of the butterfly: We will give them a photocopy in which appears the life -cycle of the butterfly, and then they will have to paint it. It´s a good way for them to understantd better the story that we will read.

Activities while reading:

- Related to the numbers and colors: While we read the story, I will ask them some questions about the numbers that appear in the book such as How many pears did the caterpillar eat?

- Related to predictions: We will ask some questions such as What´s going to happen?

Activities after reading:

- Related to the explanation: We will ask them some questions so we will see if they understand something of this process such as: What did you learn? Dou you like the story? What´s was your favorite part?

- Related to drama: They will create some costumes of the different animals and food that appear in the story and then they will perfomance with our help.

For what reason ZOG is a suitable storybook for little children?

From our point of view, this storybook is appropriate to tell for the children while we are showing the ilustrations to them. Another reason is that the ilustrations attract to them due to the pictures and the colours. The topic of this book could be very motivating for the chirldren because it appears some characters like dragons, princesses or knightes and it has an unusual end in which nobody dies. Also they can learn some values such as the aid to the others, the constancy in the work or the friendship. This book can develop some learning strategies like anticipate due to the cover of the book. We can work activities before, while and after telling it. To sum up, they can also identify themselves with the characteres of the story, for instance the dragons are growing like the children.

Reader of Charlie and the chocolate factory

Charlie and his family live in a small wooden house outside the town. The house has 2 rooms, but only one bed for all of them. The four grandparents sleep in the only bed because they are too old and tired. Charlie and his parents sleep on the floor in the other room. This house is too cold in the winter, but it´s warm in the summertime.

Charlie´s father works in a toothpaste factory and he doesn´t earn enough money to live well all of them. So they are too poor and they can´t buy enough food. They always eat cabbage soup, but Charlie dreams with a chocolate bar. Once a year, on his birthday, he gets a chocolate bar.

Near Charlie´s house there is an enormous chocolate factory, called Wonka´s factory. It is the most famous in the world. The inventor of the factory is Mr. Willy Wonka. This factory makes the most spectacular and fabulous chocolates of the world.

English resources for infant education

The english website that I´ve choosen between all is:

http://www.fisher-price.com/en_GB/GamesAndActivities/OnlineGames/index.html

Inside this web page I really like this online game for infant education:

http://www.fisher-price.com/en_US/GamesAndActivities/onlinegames/theabcszoolearninggame.html

The reason why I have choosen this website is because I see it very useful and interesting. Children will learn by playing for instance the alphabet and also they will deal with some animals of the zoo. In this resouce you can also choose the activities, depending on the age of your child. It´s a way of using the ICT while they are learning.
